Will* | 10 March 1778 | Edward Stringer left a will on 10 March 1778; In the name of God Amen the 10th day of March one thousand and seven hundred and seventy eight I Edward Stringer of Caswell Co of the province of North Carolina planter being verry sick and verry weak in body but perfect in mind and memory thanks be to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my soul and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is today specified. First of all I give and recommend my soul in to the hands of God that give it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the desecration of my executor. Nothing doubting but that at the general resurrection I shall rise in the name of the mighty power of God and as (can't read) such worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Judith Stringer all my good (goods?), chattel and land, movables and unmovables effects to be enjoyed by her forever to do with as suits herself to leave it to them who she pleases only at my wife's death. I give to my son Limeledge Stringer my plantation and three hundred ac. of land taking in a cabin where Robert Campbell lives with all of the appurtenances thereafter to him and his heirs forever. Then I give and bequeath my daughter Fannie Southerland one cow and a cow yearling, one feather bed and one hundred ac. of land to her and her heirs forever, I give and bequeath my daughter Mary Ann one young cow and one feather bed to her and her heirs forever. I give to my Granddaughter Sarah Stringer one young cow to her and her heirs forever and what remains at my wife's death after the (can't read) is to be equally divided between my children Jas (James) Stringer, William Stringer, Limeledge Stringer, Agnes Whitlock, Lucia Browning, Tabitha Pead, Sarah Campbell. To my son Edmund Stringer one shilling and no more to my son Reuben Stringer one shilling and no more to my daughter Frances Via one shilling and no more. Item: I contract and appoint my wife my lawful executor of this my last will and testament and that I do hereby revoke and disavow any and every other forms and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
